What is an electronic will?

An electronic will (also known as an e-will or digital will) is a document that lays out what you want to do with your possessions or assets after you pass away.

It can also include specific instructions or requests, such as making sure any pets are taken care of.

Making a will isn’t about forms and jargon: it’s about your words, your way.

Why choose an electronic will?

Some people avoid making wills for three reasons: they don’t own anything valuable enough to need a will, they don’t feel the time is right for will making, and it’s too long-winded a process to fit into their busy lives.

That’s why taking out an electronic will has so many benefits:

A simpler process
Creating an electronic will is simpler than the paper process. You can do it in less than 10 minutes and in the comfort of your own home.

Securely stored
Your electronic will is protected by compliant and robust digital security and cloud storage, 24/7.

Easy to update
Want to make any changes to your electronic document? No problem, simply log in and do what you need to do.

No jargon, no stress
Will making can involve lots of jargon but wherever possible, we avoid it and use plain English. We also understand people make wills for different reasons: we’re here to guide and advise you at every stage.

Built with care for real families
An electronic will protects your wishes, helps avoid family stress, and saves your loved ones time and money. It can prevent your estate from being divvied up by the courts, reduce any probate issues and ensure there’s someone to look after your children, should anything happen to you.

A small act of love: a lasting legacy.

Find out how it works

Is an electronic will legal in the UK?

In May 2025, the Law Commission will review current legislation and introduce a Bill enabling electronic wills in England and Wales.

If passed, this new Wills Act removes the need for physical signatures and in-person witnesses, meaning that you are able to create or update your will digitally from the comfort of your own home.

This legislation will enable people to create electronic wills, making legacy planning simpler, more convenient, and ultimately more secure. You can do it now, when the law changes or afterward – whenever you feel the time is right.

Who needs an electronic Will?

Everyone! If you have a home, a car, any savings or life insurance; if you have children or pets: everything that is important in your life can be protected with an electronic will.

For families who want peace of mind

Modern technology has made it easier than ever to ensure your families get peace of mind at what can be a difficult and emotional time.

You can leave them clear, unambiguous instructions and a valid will that prevents any arguments or mistakes in the future. It’s a final act of love for the people you care about the most.

For your partner

The legal system has not kept up with our changing family structures and the complexity of modern life.

Fortunately, with prior planning you are in control and protecting your legacy — and the person you share your life with — doesn’t need to rely on outdated rules.

An electronic will allows you to decide exactly how your assets are divided, ensuring your loved ones are cared for according to your wishes.

For anyone who wants to simplify life admin

Many of us lead busy lives and even the thought of adding to the paperwork or admin burden can leave us wanting to run for the hills.

An electronic will is hassle-free, can be updated whenever you want and, like other legal documents, can be securely stored via cloud storage until it’s needed. Tick that off the to-do list.

For anyone who’s ever thought, “I really should write a will…”

Over fifty percent of the UK’s adult population doesn’t have a will, and this is one of the reasons adeus came to exist.

If you’ve ever thought: “I’m not that old!”, “I don’t have anything of value to pass on”, “I’m busy today, I’ll do it tomorrow…”,  now’s the perfect time to create an electronic will.
